Welcome

Hello and welcome to What We Do In The Winter.

WWDitW is a podcast series about the lives of the people of Mull, Iona, Ulva, Gometra and Erraid.

The aim of the project is to locate the people of our communities in a global context and to share tales of the islands in the past.  Each podcast offering a snapshot of the participant’s life.

We hope to cover other islands and remote communities in the future.

You can find a short promo video here which gives you a flavour of some of the people we’ve spoken to, and shows you some of the landscape of our islands.

Follow us on Facebook or Twitter for the latest news and podcast releases.

Our podcasts are hosted on Soundcloud.  If you want to subscribe there or on iTunes, please feel free to do so.  We can also be found on Tune In Radio.

Thanks for your time, yours,

  1. I’ve been listening to these wonderful podcasts as I walk my way through lockdown, I’m from Tobermory but live in Devon now. It’s been so lovely to hear voices and tales from home. It’s a fantastic project, recording the past for the future.

  2. My grand parents are from Ulva and Ulva Ferry. It brought back many memories to hear these chats. Thankyou for the effort taken to record some of these amazing people.

  3. Hi my name is Joe Fallon and my mum who passed away in 2019 grew up in Tobermory. Her maiden name was MacLean and that was her brother, my uncle Alastair MacLean who spoke on your podcast about his life growing up in Tobermory and about his life as a fisherman. Myself, my wife carol-ann and our son Nathan took my mum on what would be her last holiday to Tralee bay caravan park outside of Oban around 2015 and we took her over on the ferry from Oban to craignure then into Tobermory on the bus and visited my uncle Alastair. It was so lovely to see my mum and her brother sit and talk away together. I remember my mum speaking Gaelic on the phone to Alastair and also we managed to take my mum to a nursing home to see her cousin who she hadn’t seen in 60 years which was quite emotional as there was a moment when her cousin realised who she was and it brought a lump to my throat. I miss my mum so much as she was the most beautiful lovely caring mum ever. I feel emotional texting this but it was by chance i came across my uncle Alastair’s podcast. Thankyou and God Bless to all of you. 🙏🙂❤️

    1. Thank you so much Joe, I can’t tell you how much this means to me.
That’s the entire point of the project, to open up connections, offer fellowship and make meaningful links for the listener.
Thank you so, so much for your kind words.
      Yours
      Alasdair
