Islands in Film: Mon 18th – Sun 24th May

Do you live on Mull, Iona, Ulva or Gometra?
Could you capture one minute of film that expresses your experience of your home island at this point in time?
It could be the view from your window, your drive to work, your dog splashing in a muddy puddle, it could be a cake rising in the oven, some wild flowers that have just opened up in the last day or two, some biscuits going down a conveyor belt or even a moment from your shopping trip.
Try and film something that you think looks nice and is unlikely to have been filmed by anyone else.

We’re looking to make a film from as many different perspectives on the islands as possible to just capture our reality at this moment in time.

If you want to take part, please choose a moment to film in the week beginning Mon 18th and ending Sunday 24th of May 2020.
Needless to say if you want to film more than one clip you’re more than welcome to do so.

If we use your footage, it may be the whole minute, or it may just be the 20 seconds when the cat falls off  the back of the sofa.

We’re looking from submissions from all ages.

To maximise the possibility of your footage being used in the final film, please follow the guidelines below and try to choose as unique an image as you can.

  • Film from as steady a position as you can.
    • If you can lean your camera / phone on something or have it on a tripod that would be brilliant.  Hand held footage can make a viewer feel a bit sick, so we’d like to avoid the vomiting viewer.
  • Film in Landscape not Portrait
    • If you’re using a phone to film please turn it onto its side rather than having it pointing up / down.

  • Please make sure that no individual clip is longer than one minute.
  • Can you please identify where and when the clip was taken.

Please don’t film anyone without their consent. This is really important.

The final film will be pulled together by Georgia and Alasdair Satchel through our company Struthach Films.  We will make no direct profit from the film and will put a message at the end of the film inviting anyone who has enjoyed it to make a contribution to any of a list of island charities that we’ll provide links to.

Please send your films to: whatwedointhewinter@gmail.com

If you need any advice on how to send your films to us, please feel free to drop us a line and we can give you some tips.
